Voluntary Code of Good Practice for Prize Draw Operators

Click Competitions promoted earlier today (20th of November 2025), that they’ve been working together with some other competitions and the Government, to come up with an official Code of Conduct for Prize Draw Operators. Which does sound good, and is something that is much needed.

If you’ve read my other blog posts or some of my reviews, it should be pretty clear that almost every competition or prize draw in the UK is borderline illegal as far as the official Gambling Commission’s guidelines go. So, while I’m somewhat pleased that this is happening and it is indeed a welcome addition to what is a very ‘wild-wild-west-ish‘ landscape amongst these prize draw companies – I wouldn’t get my hopes up. As after all, it’s all voluntary.

This voluntary code consists of three parts:

  1. Player protections: That include some welcome additions, such as limits on what people can spend on their credit cards, suspensions of accounts, and that instant wins shouldn’t form the majority of the draws.
  2. Transparency: The operators should show all necessary information and be transparent about how they perform the draws, what the odds are.
  3. Accountability: To ensure the operators and their partners adhere to the code.

You are able to read the code in full here.

Also, and I suppose funnily enough, there is already a list of “Operator Signatories” (as in, competitions that pledge to adhere to these voluntary rules). And even though I haven’t had the time to review each of these competitions listed yet unfortunately – I can tell you that most of them do not adhere to the code yet.

It has to be pointed out, that they have given a deadline to implement these changes, which is to be done no later than the 20th of May 2026.

The list of 23 signatories above was correct as of 20th of November 2025. This list has now been expanded to a total of 47 signatories (more than doubled in just 2 days). It’s safe to assume the sudden surge of more competitions added to this list means that these new competitions think they are missing out on something. Alternatively, they just want to gain more free exposure alongside with the most successful competitions, and have just jumped on the bandwagon without understanding what it entails.

I’m marking the below competitions as “(NEW)” – so you can see which ones presumably were not included in drafting the code with the Government, rather, just got wind of this new code and wanted to be included as it would not be a good look for them if their competitors are pledging to do better.

Conclusion

It will be extremely interesting to see what happens now, but as mentioned before – probably not that much on the larger scale… I’m fully expecting some of these competitions to stay exactly the way they are now, with maybe some minor improvements – that may or may not be actual improvements in terms of transparency and player protection.

My initial plan was to fast-track the reviews of all of the competitions who are signatories in this voluntary code pledge, and call each one of them out accordingly in their reviews if necessary. And after the implementation period has ended, to check whether any of these competitions actually cleaned up their acts – or if they’ve just promised to do better but not done so (if they didn’t have a clean act already)… But because more and more competitions are jumping on the this bandwagon and being added to the list, I will focus on the initial list of 23 competitions first.

Important Notice

Please note, to be included in this list all you need to do is to send an email to prizedrawcode@dcms.gov.uk and say you wish to be come a signatory on this Voluntary Code. The fact that a company name is listed on this page of voluntary signatories, does not mean or guarantee that the competition is trustworthy and honest – nor does it mean that they are worth entering. It merely means that the competition should adhere to the voluntary code by the deadline – which will be in May 2026.

Finally, I have also saved this first version of the Code of Conduct separately, in case there are any changes on the Government website. The downloaded version can be accessed here as a PDF.
